China’s first battery-swap MPV enters ride-hailing service: SAIC Maxus delivers 100 units with 527 km range
SAIC Maxus announced the delivery of 100 units of its new battery-swap electric Mifa 7 MPV to ride-hailing fleets in Shanghai on November 13, 2025. The vehicle, positioned in the 180,000-yuan (approximately 25,300 USD) range, offers a CLTC-rated range of 527 kilometres and supports 90-second rapid battery swaps, marking the first large-scale deployment of a battery-swap MPV in China’s ride-hailing sector.
According to SAIC Maxus, the model is based on its latest generation of seven-seat electric MPVs and has been adapted specifically for commercial use. The rapid battery-swap system allows each vehicle to remain in operation for more than two additional hours per day compared with conventional charging. This is particularly relevant for professional drivers, as reduced downtime directly improves operating efficiency and overall income potential.
The new MPV features a dedicated suspension system, a 2,975-millimetre wheelbase, and a high-efficiency body structure designed to maximise interior space. The flexible three-row seating layout accommodates up to seven passengers and features a 760-litre luggage compartment. The interior includes 32 storage compartments and seven USB charging ports. At the same time, the model also features a large sliding side door and an advanced driver-assistance system designed for urban mobility applications.
SAIC Maxus reports that the vehicle has obtained a five-star Euro NCAP safety certification, aligning it with leading European safety standards. The company added that the seven-seat layout makes it suitable for small group transport, reducing the need for multiple cars and lowering per-passenger travel costs.
The 180,000-yuan pricing (approximately 25,300 USD) positions it in the mid-range of the electric MPV segment in China. Earlier in 2025, SAIC Maxus launched a plug-in hybrid version of its MPV series, equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, an electric motor producing 176 kilowatts, and two battery options offering 140 or 230 kilometres of electric-only range.
The new battery-swap model, by contrast, is fully electric and intended for ride-hailing fleets rather than private users. It has a CLTC-rated range of 527 kilometres and supports 90-second battery swaps.
