The Smart brand is preparing a new mid-size sedan known internally as a camouflage test vehicle and expected to enter the market as the Smart #6. Recent spy photographs from Auto-Home show the sedan in an early stage of development, featuring heavy body coverings that obscure most exterior surfaces. The vehicle represents a shift in Smart’s product approach in China, as its current models, including the Smart #3 and Smart #5, are positioned in compact SUV and crossover segments. The #6 is being developed as a sedan equipped with a plug-in hybrid system rather than a purely electric layout.

Images from multiple sources show a front fascia fitted with rectangular headlights and a prominent horizontal trim piece at the centre. These elements resemble styling cues found in recent Lynk & Co and Zeekr models, brands that also operate under the broader Geely umbrella. The presence of these similarities suggests that the vehicle in the images may still be in an early phase of testing, with final production styling yet to be revealed.

Additional photographs highlight a rounded exterior mirror design and a flowing roofline that transitions into a fastback-style rear. The side windows display a straight, clean beltline that aligns with Smart’s established design language. Other images show that the sedan may adopt a roof-mounted lidar unit, while the rear is expected to include a full-width light bar and an active rear spoiler.

A plug-in hybrid system will power the Smart #6. Technical expectations are based on the configuration used in the Smart #5 EHD, which pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine rated at 120 kW with an electric motor delivering up to 200 kW. That system uses a three-speed DHT hybrid-specific gearbox and offers two battery options: 20 kWh and 41.46 kWh. In the #5 EHD, the smaller battery provides a CLTC pure-electric range of 120 km, while the larger pack offers a range of 252 km. The combined range extends between 1,483 km and 1,615 km under CLTC conditions.

Although Smart has not confirmed whether the #6 will adopt the same configuration, the sedan is expected to follow a similar technical approach.
