BYD Atto 8 PHEV launched in Brazil with 150 km EV range, from 74,200 USD
BYD has introduced the Atto 8 to the Brazilian market as the export version of the Tang L sold in China. The vehicle is offered exclusively as a DM‑p plug-in hybrid with four-wheel drive, priced at R$399,990 (roughly 74,200 USD), as reported by Y-Auto. The Brazilian launch continues BYD’s global naming strategy, positioning the Atto family as its international SUV lineup.
The overall design closely follows the Chinese-market Tang L, with several adjustments for the Brazilian market. The front fascia retains the wide chrome bar but features the Latin BYD badge instead of the Chinese-script emblem. The rooftop laser lidar seen on some Chinese versions is omitted, aligning the model with markets where high-level assisted-driving hardware is either unnecessary or regulated differently. The D-pillar keeps the sculpted form of the Tang L, intended to improve natural light and outward visibility for third-row passengers.
Inside, BYD uses layered geometric surfaces and a central “ridge” motif inspired by traditional Chinese rooflines. The main dashboard features bamboo-wood trim with three-dimensional cutouts for a cleaner, more structured appearance. Brazilian media reports indicate that the Atto 8 retains the large rotating central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster used in the Chinese version. However, final equipment levels may vary to meet local certification requirements.
Power comes from BYD’s DM‑p hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors for a total output of 488 horsepower. The model keeps the electronic all-wheel-drive arrangement from the domestic version. Local EV-only range figures have not been confirmed, but the Chinese Tang L DM‑p offers extended electric capability through BYD’s hybrid battery and drive module.
The Atto 8 enters the Brazilian market at a price that places it among higher-end hybrid SUVs, making it one of BYD’s most expensive passenger models in the country. Additional trim levels, battery-electric variants, or market-specific equipment packages may be introduced after monitoring early sales.
Beyond Brazil, Mexico is confirmed as an early target, with the DM‑p AWD variant now available for orders. Reports suggest BYD may expand the Atto 8 to other Latin American countries, though official rollout dates are not yet announced. In Europe, availability has not been confirmed, even as BYD sells other electrified SUVs across more than 20 countries.
The BYD Sealion 8, a large plug-in hybrid SUV closely related to the Atto 8/Tang L, is confirmed for Australia and expected to reach New Zealand, with additional markets possible in the future.
