A new BYD pickup truck was recently spotted in testing, and the model is expected to launch in South America in 2026, according to Auto-home. The appearance of this yet‑unnamed pickup draws attention because BYD’s existing pickup offering, the BYD Shark, already competes internationally. The forthcoming model appears positioned below the Shark in size and likely in market positioning.

Photos from the test instance show a double‑cab configuration and a cargo bed that appears smaller than the Shark’s cargo bed. The exterior seems to retain BYD’s earlier “Dragon Face” design cues, and interior glimpses suggest a more modest trim consistent with a value‑oriented positioning compared with the more premium Shark.

Technical data for the new pickup remains unconfirmed. Some observers expect the vehicle may adopt BYD’s plug‑in hybrid technology, though no official powertrain or performance information has been released. Visible underbody elements from test images suggest the car uses a unibody construction rather than a traditional body‑on‑frame chassis, and a double‑wishbone rear suspension has been noted, traits that differentiate it from many conventional pickups.

For context, the BYD Shark pickup is built on BYD’s DMO (Dual Mode Off‑road) platform. It measures 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, 1,925 mm in height, with a 3,260 mm wheelbase. It uses dual electric motors combined with a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine for a combined output of over 430 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

In terms of market performance, reports indicate Shark exports reached approximately 34,672 units by November 2025. The pickup has been introduced in multiple markets, including Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Cambodia, and Australia.

The new pickup is smaller than the Shark in size and follows a more value-oriented design approach. If launched, it would expand BYD’s pickup lineup in international markets, providing an alternative in a lighter and potentially more compact segment.
