The prototype of the Hongqi E702, also known as the P601 project, has been completed at the FAW Group development institute’s assembly division, as reported by IT-home. The E702 is part of Hongqi’s flagship model in the 9-series product line and represents the brand’s latest mid-to-large electric sedan under its New Energy sub-brand. The completion of the prototype is notable because it demonstrates progress in the vehicle’s development and testing process.

During the vehicle’s electrical commissioning phase, the development team focused on technical optimisations. High-voltage system activation was completed in 10 days, setting a new record for test-bench preparation speed.

Official images show that the E702 retains Hongqi’s family design language. The front fascia features the brand’s new New Energy logo, stylised LED headlights shaped like sickles connected to a V-shaped lower grille, and lidar integration within the headlamp units. Electronic mirrors are used on both sides of the vehicle.

The body features a continuous waistline extending from the headlights, low-drag large wheels, hidden door handles, a concealed B-pillar, and what is expected to be frameless windows. The rear design mirrors the front, with similarly shaped LED taillights, a minimalist rear bumper with aerodynamic elements, and a large rear window that integrates with the roof glass sunroof.

The vehicle is reported to include “point-to-point” autonomous driving capabilities across major trunk roads. Functions mentioned include automated lane changes, automatic entry and exit from ramps, and path planning through self-learning data. Trials reportedly indicate fewer than 0.5 human takeovers per 100 kilometres. Additional specifications include a 7.1.4-channel, 2800 W Dolby Panoramic Audio system, a high-level intelligent driving safety chassis system, and an over-the-air update system capable of transferring data at 5 GB/min.

No pricing or delivery schedule has been announced. The prototype remains in development, and the E702 is positioned in China’s mid-to-large electric sedan segment.
