BYD Qin Max EV sedan filed with 240 kW motor, larger body than Qin Plus
The Chinese automaker BYD has submitted a regulatory application for a new electric sedan called BYD Qin Max. The filing highlights a more powerful motor and a larger body compared with the current BYD Qin Plus.
About the BYD Qin family
The BYD Qin family has been part of BYD’s hybrid and EV lineup since 2013. It began as a plug-in hybrid and gradually expanded into fully electric models. Over the years, the series has included the Qin Pro, Qin Plus, and, most recently, Qin Max, covering different segments of China’s EV sedan market. The Qin family has contributed to BYD’s presence in both hybrid and electric sedans and competes with domestic and international brands.
The 2025 BYD Qin Plus is a fully electric sedan with a 57.6 kWh battery, a 100 kW motor producing 180 N·m of torque, and a CLTC-rated range of 510 km. It measures 4765–4795 mm in length, 1837 mm in width, and 1515 mm in height, with a 2718 mm wheelbase. The official retail price is 163,800 yuan (approximately USD 23,200).
What’s new about the BYD Qin Max
According to the filing, the BYD Qin Max is a fully electric sedan measuring 4866 mm in length, 1880 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height. Its wheelbase is listed at 2820 mm, which is longer than the Qin Plus’s 2718 mm, suggesting increased interior space, particularly for rear passengers.
The Qin Max offers two powertrain options. The MIIT filing confirms a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak output of 120 kW and a rated output of 45 kW, manufactured by Fuzhou BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. A higher-output 240 kW motor has been reported elsewhere but is not listed in the official filing. The standard EV version of the Qin Plus uses a 100 kW motor. Details on the Qin Max’s battery capacity, driving range, or acceleration have not been disclosed. However, the MIIT filing confirms a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with cells produced by Hefei BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. and battery pack assembly by Fuzhou Fudi Battery Co., Ltd.
The model will include multiple customisation options. Buyers can select different wheel designs, a sunroof or panoramic roof, and optional badging such as “Da Qin” or “Qin Ultra.” Additional optional equipment listed in the MIIT filing includes shark-fin antenna, privacy glass, front and rear parking radar, exterior mirrors, and an in-vehicle ETC device. The car also features an event data recorder (EDR). These options may help differentiate variants, though no official packages or pricing have been announced.
Editor’s comment
The regulatory listing confirms that the BYD Qin Max is approved for production and future sale in China. While specifications such as range and top speed remain unconfirmed, the vehicle’s larger dimensions, upgraded motor, and additional technical features such as ABS, EDR, and optional radar position it above the Qin Plus in performance, safety, and interior space within BYD’s EV sedan lineup.
