Nissan is preparing to expand its electrified lineup in China with the NX8, a new SUV under the Dongfeng Nissan brand, as confirmed in the latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filing in China. The NX8 will be offered in both fully electric and plug‑in hybrid variants, reflecting Nissan’s strategy to expand its presence in China’s competitive new-energy vehicle market.
According to the filing, the NX8 measures 4870 millimetres in length, 1920 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2917 mm. Curb weight ranges from 2196 to 2245 kg, depending on the version, and total vehicle mass is 2660 kg. The SUV has a reported top speed of 180 km/h.
The exterior design features a closed front fascia typical of new-energy vehicles, highlighted by a full-width LED headlight strip. Door handles are concealed for a smoother profile, and the rear mirrors the front with a continuous taillight bar, giving the SUV a cohesive visual identity.
The NX8 offers two powertrain configurations. The fully electric model uses a single motor rated at either 215 kW or 250 kW. The plug‑in hybrid combines a 1.497‑litre internal combustion engine with a 195 kW electric motor. Both versions use lithium-iron phosphate batteries and are designed for mid-range SUV performance.
Nissan’s recent development in China
Earlier in 2025, Dongfeng Nissan introduced two NEV sedans in China: the N7 and N6. Both are built on Dongfeng platforms and use Dongfeng technology, including local vehicle architecture, electrification systems, and intelligent vehicle software. The N7 is a fully electric mid-size sedan priced between 119,900 and 149,900 yuan (approximately 16,650–20,800 USD). The N6 is a plug‑in hybrid mid-size sedan that shares the same Dongfeng platform, drivetrain architecture, and design language as the N7.
Reports indicate that both N7 and N6 have export potential, with Nissan planning to target select overseas markets, including Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Following this trend, the NX8 is likely to be considered for export as well, although detailed launch timelines and market-specific pricing are not yet available.
