GWM‘s Tank 300 Polar Edition will be introduced on December 10, 2025, with global production limited to 300 units. The model was first shown at the Guangzhou Auto Show and is a heavily customised derivative of the Tank 300 aimed at users who operate in extremely cold or remote environments. It has been designated as an approved product for China’s polar scientific teams and is now open for pre-order, according to Autohome.

The Antarctic testing background is linked to a deployment of the Tank 300 Diesel, which the China Polar Research Centre selected for logistical support during the forty-second Antarctic expedition. That vehicle was assigned to Great Wall Station on King George Island following a cooperation agreement between Great Wall Motor and the research centre in October 2025. It completed environmental validation in controlled facilities simulating sub-30°C temperatures and snowstorm conditions before being transported to Antarctica for personnel and material transport duties.

The Polar Edition features a dedicated Polar Orange exterior colour, exclusive decals, and a special-edition logo to distinguish it from the standard model. It is positioned as a specialised vehicle for users requiring enhanced operational capability in regions with low temperatures, heavy snowfall or challenging terrain.

Three functional upgrade packages will be available. The Winter Protection Package adds a heated front windshield and heated spray nozzles to reduce the risk of icing and fogging at temperatures below 30 °C. The Snow Conquest Package includes all-terrain AT tyres to increase traction on snow, ice and other low-grip surfaces. The Recovery Escort Package equips the vehicle with a remote-controlled winch and a 2.5-ton towing rating designed for self-recovery or assistance in off-road conditions.

The model is expected to retain the diesel version’s powertrain configuration. It uses a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 186 horsepower and 490 Nm of torque paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This combination has undergone operational testing in Antarctic conditions and has previously demonstrated reliable cold-start performance and stable power delivery.

The Tank 300 Polar Edition builds on this cold-weather operational groundwork by offering a production model equipped with optional features for low-temperature use. Its December release places it alongside mainstream models adapted for similar environments, such as expedition-modified Toyota Land Cruisers and Toyota Hilux units used in Antarctic and Arctic missions, as well as cold-climate versions of the Ford F-150 commonly deployed in northern Canada and Alaska. Production for the Polar Edition is limited to 300 units.
