BYD Automotive has applied to join the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Alliance (GIIC) and seeks to become a council member, according to IT-home. The application was submitted on December 17, 2025. GIIC, founded in June 2024, is an international industrial organisation focused on integrating IoT technology with the HarmonyOS ecosystem, bringing together domestic and international companies and institutions.

The alliance includes more than 350 enterprises and organisations, among them Huawei, Haier, China Mobile, and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. GIIC aims to establish a standardised digital foundation for IoT applications and promote industrial-scale development of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. BYD’s participation is intended to leverage the company’s experience in intelligent automotive technology alongside GIIC’s industry resources.

BYD and GIIC plan to lead the development of full-scenario connectivity standards linking humans, vehicles, and homes. Efforts will focus on AI agent-level collaborative innovation and the technical standardisation of interfaces and data protocols between automotive-grade HarmonyOS devices and home smart terminals. The initiative aims to reduce fragmentation caused by inconsistent protocols and incompatible interfaces across the industry.

The collaboration will focus on cross-scenario connectivity across BYD’s full vehicle lineup and its allied smart home and wearable devices. Users are expected to access unified interactions across travel, residential, and entertainment scenarios. For example, voice commands from vehicles may pre-activate home air conditioning, lighting, and water heating before arrival. At the same time, smart home control panels can manage vehicle preheating, navigation, and battery monitoring.

The initiative also aims to integrate security features that enable two-way communication between home safety systems and vehicle status alerts. This integration is designed to provide a continuous protection network across both automotive and domestic environments.

BYD and GIIC intend to explore pilot projects creating immersive “human-vehicle-home” bright life experience spaces. These spaces will allow consumers to experience integrated scenarios when purchasing vehicles and home appliances, providing an interactive environment to demonstrate cross-device connectivity in practice.

The company’s application to GIIC represents a step toward establishing standardised, cross-scenario smart connectivity between vehicles and homes within the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
