BYD Sealion 6 ends domestic sales in China, sales continue globaly
BYD’s mid-size SUV, the Sealion 6 (sold in China as the Song Plus), has been officially removed from the domestic China lineup and no longer appears on BYD’s official Ocean Network model page. The Sealion 06 has been named as its successor in China.
Since its launch in September 2020, the Sealion 6/Song Plus has been a cornerstone of BYD’s SUV lineup. In China, the model recorded full-year sales of 400,920 units in 2025. Globally, cumulative sales of the model family had already surpassed 1.5 million units by October 2025, reflecting its sustained popularity in both domestic and international markets.
The broader Song series, including multiple variants, sold 788,003 units in 2025, contributing roughly 17 % of BYD’s total annual sales.
The Sealion 6’s export performance comes amid a broader shift in BYD’s global sales. In 2025, BYD reported roughly 4.55 million vehicles sold worldwide, including over 1 million units sold overseas for the first time. December overseas deliveries reached about 133,000 units, a 145 % year-on-year increase, highlighting BYD’s growing reliance on international markets even as domestic growth slowed.
While domestic sales have ended, the Sealion 6 continues to be produced and sold in overseas markets. BYD’s Thailand plant has locally produced over 70,000 Sealion 6 units, reflecting both local demand and export capacity.
In Europe and Asia, the Sealion 6 has been adopted competitively. Cumulative November 2025 sales in Germany exceeded 11,818 units, and monthly sales in the United Kingdom surpassed 5,000 units. In Japan, the model has been positioned at higher price points, demonstrating acceptance in a mature market. In overseas markets, the plug-in hybrid version of the Song Plus is marketed as the Sealion 6 or Seal U DM‑i.
The domestic phase-out is part of BYD’s broader SUV product realignment for the Ocean series. The Sealion 06 will continue to serve domestic buyers with updated exterior design, revised lineup positioning, and newer platform technology.
