Nio to launch China’s largest electric SUV: the ES9 with 5.37 meters in length
Nio is set to continue its expansion in the premium electric vehicle market with the upcoming ES9, which has appeared in the latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing in China. As the flagship of Nio’s SUV lineup.
The ES9 maintains Nio’s latest family design language with a sharp, angular front fascia and split matrix headlights. The roof maintains the three-pronged design with a LiDAR sensor in the middle flanked by high-definition cameras on either side.
In terms of dimensions, the ES9 measures an impressive 5365 mm in length, 2029 mm in width, and stands 1870 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3250 mm. Previously, the Nio ES8, measuring 5280 mm in length, 2010 mm in width, and 1800 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3130 mm, held the title of China’s largest electric SUV. This upcoming ES9 will break this record, becoming the new titleholder for the largest electric SUV in China.

These measurements exceed even those of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan (5341 mm × 2000 mm × 1837 mm), making the ES9 significantly larger than this ultra-luxury benchmark. To match its massive proportions, the vehicle comes with wheels up to 23 inches in diameter.
The side profile largely continues the design elements of the ES8, projecting a steady and imposing presence while offering two-tone body options. Notably, solid-state LiDAR sensors are installed on both front fenders to eliminate blind spots and enhance perception accuracy.

At the rear, the ES9 follows Nio’s family styling。 A full-width “Three-layer” taillight enhances the vehicle’s recognizability, while hidden windshield wipers further emphasize the luxury feel of the vehicle.
For power, the ES9 features dual motors, with the front motor producing 180 kW (241 hp) and the rear 340 kW (456 hp), combining for a total output of 520 kW (697 hp) and 700 Nm of torque—matching the specifications of the new ES8. The maximum speed is rated at 220 km/h. The battery, supplied by CATL, is expected to come standard with a 102 kWh capacity and support Nio’s 3-minute battery swap technology.
