BYD Seal 05 PHEV exposed with 26.6 kWh battery, 155 km electric range and longer wheelbase
BYD has filed official certification documents for a substantially revised version of the BYD Seal 05 DM plug‑in hybrid in China, showing a redesigned exterior aligned with the brand’s latest styling and the addition of a larger battery option that increases pure-electric driving range. The updated Seal 05 DM incorporates significant styling changes that mirror the design language launched earlier on the BYD Sealion 05 EV, a compact electric SUV that entered the Chinese market in March 2025 with prices starting at 117,800 yuan (approximately 16,240 USD) and up to 520 km of CLTC range.
The new Seal 05 DM adopts a refreshed front fascia with a full‑width LED light bar and modified bumper design, and it features semi‑hidden door handles on the body sides. The rear section has a revised taillight design, updated rear bumper trim, and a reshaped roof spoiler. These exterior updates visually differentiate the new plug‑in hybrid from earlier versions and align it more closely with the design cues of the Sealion 05 EV.
Dimensionally, the updated Seal 05 DM measures 4620 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1630 mm in height, with a 2770 mm wheelbase, according to the certification filing. Compared with the electric Sealion 05 EV, which is 4520 mm long with a wheelbase of 2720 mm, the new hybrid’s extended length and wheelbase reflect body redesign and platform differences between the two variants.
The updated model’s optional equipment list includes a range of exterior and advanced-feature options, such as laser radar, front radar sensors, upgraded exterior mirrors, silver window and body‑colour side trim, an interior rearview mirror mounting base, and a panoramic roof with luggage rack. The black five‑spoke alloy wheel option will be available.
Under the hood, the Seal 05 DM retains a 1.5‑litre four‑cylinder plug‑in hybrid powertrain paired with an electric motor. The combustion engine delivers a maximum output of 74 kW, while the electric motor produces up to 120 kW. Powertrain specifications remain consistent with prior Seal 05 DM variants, maintaining the model’s integrated hybrid system.
The updated plug‑in hybrid is offered with two battery-capacity options from Fudi. The standard battery has a capacity of 18.3 kWh, and the new, larger battery has a capacity of 26.6 kWh. According to certification data, the smaller battery supports a pure-electric range of 102 km, while the larger variant achieves 151-155 km under China’s official testing protocol. These figures represent an increase over earlier plug‑in hybrid Seal 05 models and position the updated Seal 05 DM with greater electric‑only capability.
