Recently, Chery’s Exeed brand announced its plan to be the first to equip its vehicles with solid-state batteries by 2026 on a shooting brake model called “Liefeng,” boasting a range of 1,500 km in -30℃ temperature.

The battery is expected to come from Chery’s Rhino S solid-state battery, with an energy density reaching 600 Wh/kg. Currently, polymer, oxide, and sulfide are the three main stream alternative electrolytes for solid-state battery development. Chery is betting on the oxide route.

Besides the impressive 1,500 km range figure, Chery’s main selling point this time is its “unbeatable performance in freezing temperatures.” The company claimed the batteries can perform reliably at -30℃.

Additionally, Liefeng is expected to be equipped with an 800 V architecture and 30,000 rpm electric motor, boasting a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of less than 3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h.

Exeed ES8 shooting brake model

Earlier in December 2025, Chery revealed that its Exeed ES8 shooting brake will be Exeed’s first model to equip with solid-state battery, achieving a pure electric range of 1,000 km. Judging the front face, both models have the same headlight pattern design.

Chery’s phased solid-state battery rollout approach was as follows:

  • Targeted operation in 2026: The first batch of vehicles will be deployed in ride-hailing and rental markets to gather additional operational performance data
  • Large-scale mass production in 2027

Industry experts generally believe that 2026 to 2027 will be the crucial period for determining whether solid-state batteries can be successfully integrated into vehicles.

Will this be another hype around solid-state battery as experts from China’s top battery and automotive companies still warned that the technology remains far from being ready for large-scale commercialization at the 2025 World Power Battery Conference in Sichuan, China?
