Recently, Chinese automotive blogger “Tongkuai Shuchang” released the sales ranking of million-yuan-level (143,400 USD) luxury cars in the Chinese market for 2025. Among the top 20 models on the list, BYD’s Yangwang U8L and U8 SUVs made the cut, becoming the only Chinese brand to be included in the ranking. The remaining spots were occupied by foreign luxury brands such as Porsche, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz.

Automotive blogger “Tongkuai Shuchang” focuses on publishing Chinese market car sales data, industry analysis, and commentary on hot topics.

Top 20 best-selling ultra-luxury cars in China in 2025

BYD’s Yangwang – the automaker’s premium new energy vehicle sub-brand – is the only Chinese brand represented on the list.

The Yangwang U8L ranked 15th with 1,538 units sold, and the Yangwang U8 ranked 16th with 1,112 units sold. Compared to the leading models, Yangwang’s sales volume lags behind. For example, the top-selling Porsche Cayenne sold more than 11 times the number of units as the BYD Yangwang U8L.

In 2025, the average price of passenger cars in China was 170,000 yuan (24,400 USD), a decrease of 14,000 yuan (2,000 USD) compared to 2024. Against the backdrop of a declining overall market average price, the luxury car market also experienced a price reduction. The average price of luxury cars was 358,000 yuan (51,300 USD) in 2025, a decrease from 376,000 yuan (53,900 USD) in 2024.

Ultra-luxury vehicles priced at over one million yuan accounted for less than 1% of overall sales last year. For a long time, this market has been firmly controlled by foreign brands such as Land Rover, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus. In the past two year, Chinese brands started to enter this ultra-luxury market segment, such as Hongqi, Maextro, and Yangwang.
