Volkswagen’s first flagship EREV SUV in China, ID. Era 9X interior unveiled ahead of launch
SAIC-Volkswagen unveiled the interior of its first ID. Era 9X flagship EREV SUV, featuring six-seat layout, three screens, and a 12.8-meter-long ambient lighting system. Once launched, which is expected to be in March, it will become SAIC-Volkswagen’s largest model, and compete directly with other “9-series” flagship models such as the Zeekr 9X, Li Auto L9, and IM LS9.
In 2026, SAIC-Volkswagen expects to launch six new energy vehicles (NEVs) to stay competitive in the Chinese market amidst declining sales in China, including two EREV, three PHEV, and one BEV models. The ID. Era series will offer multiple BEV, PHEV, and EREV products, with the Volkswagen ID. Era 9X being the first model.

The Volkswagen ID. Era 9X’s interior is based on the concept of “harmonious integration of square and circle”. There is a 15.6-inch central control screen for both the driver and co-pilot, a 21.4-inch foldable ceiling-mounted screen for the rear passengers, a narrow instrument panel, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. A panoramic sunroof is also present, along with a 12.8-meter-long ambient lighting system.

The ID.Era 9X measures 5207 mm in length, 1997 mm in width, and 1810 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3070 mm.

The powertrain comes standard with a 1.5L turbocharged ERV engine as the range extender, with a maximum power of 105 kW (141 hp). The RWD is equipped with a 220 kW (295 hp) electric motor, paired with a 51.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate or 65.2 kWh ternary lithium battery supplied by the CATL-SAIC joint venture. The battery weighs 390 kg and 387 kg, respectively, offering a CLTC pure electric range of up to 267 km and 340 km.
The respective vehicle curb weight is 2,600 kg and 2,620 kg.
The AWD has an additional 160 kW (215 hp) rear motor, bringing the combined output to 380 kW (510 hp). Its 65.2 kWh ternary lithium battery provides a CLTC pure electric range of up to 400 km. This trim has a curb weight of 2,700 kg.
