Xpeng’s next affordable EV after Mona M03, potentially named “Lisa”, spotted ahead of 2026 launch
Uncamouflaged spy photos of the upcoming Xpeng Mona D02 SUV have surfaced online, offering a clear glimpse of the new compact EV. Internally codenamed D02, the SUV is expected to make its official debut in 2026, expanding Xpeng’s Mona series along with M03.
The Mona D02 SUV continues the distinctive family design language established by the Mona M03 sedan. The front fascia bears a strong resemblance to its sibling, featuring recognisable T-shaped headlights and a black front bumper designed with integrated air vents. The D02, like the M03, will forgo LiDAR technology, instead relying on a pure vision-based assisted driving system. This system is anticipated to enable urban-assisted driving capabilities, powered by an end-to-end large model.
From the side, the D02 showcases new semi-hidden door handles, a modern touch that complements its sleek profile. A panoramic sunroof spans the roof, which elegantly slopes downwards from the B-pillar, culminating in a coupe-SUV-like rear design.

Inside, the Mona D02’s interior is expected to mirror that of the Mona M03, centred around a large infotainment screen with substantial computing power.
Under the hood, the D02 is projected to feature a single-motor powertrain. Drawing parallels with the Mona M03, the motor is expected to deliver a maximum power output of 160 kilowatts (215 hp). Power will be supplied by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery, targeting a driving range of nearly 600 km on a single charge.
With the Mona M03 sedan ranging from 119,800 to 139,800 yuan (17,400 to 20,300 USD), CarNewsChina estimates the Mona D02 SUV to be competitively priced around 150,000 yuan (21,700 USD).
Editor’s comment
The launch of the low-priced Mona M03 has significantly helped boost Xpeng’s sales. As a brand that saw both year-over-year and month-over-month sales declines in the first two months of this year, Xpeng is under immense pressure, which is why it hopes to replicate the M03’s success with this D02 model.
There are also rumours that, as the second low-priced model, the car will be named Lisa, pairing with Mona to become “Monalisa.”
