BYD’s Denza has launched a public naming campaign for its Denza Z supercar lineup, featuring three variants: hardtop, convertible, and track-focused, according to information released via official channels.

Denza Z has shared three sets of popular name proposals for hardtop, convertible, and track-focused variants, according to posts on Chinese social platforms.

Participants are invited to submit suffix names paired with “Denza Z” to form full model designations. Submissions are open until April 10 and may be in Chinese, foreign languages, or a combination of both. The process includes a shortlist of 30 entries selected by the manufacturer, followed by public voting on Weibo to determine final results. The award structure includes one grand prize, three popularity awards, and six creative awards.

Multiple naming directions proposed

The published proposals show several naming approaches across the three variants. One set assigns Chinese-language suffixes: “Ride the Wind” for the hardtop version, “Bask in the Wind” for the convertible, and “Command the Wind” for the track-focused version. Another set uses English terms, applying “FUN,” “FREE,” and “FLY” to the respective variants.

A separate proposal references performance-oriented naming conventions, including “Z-ONE” for the hardtop, “Z-RS” for the track version, and “S-719” for the convertible. These names are presented as candidate proposals rather than confirmed designations.

Three variants are defined by usage focus

The three variants are differentiated by their stated use cases. The hardtop version is described as focusing on driving experience and track-related technologies in a more accessible format. The convertible version is positioned around a soft-top design and lifestyle-oriented usage. The track version is defined by performance, lightweight construction, and a more exclusive identity.

Model background and earlier disclosures

The Denza Z is a two-door supercar under Denza, a premium brand owned by BYD. The model was first shown as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025. It’s designed by Wolfgang Egger and features sculpted rear fenders and a large rear spoiler.

Subsequent sightings of pre-production vehicles in China showed both coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, aligning with the current three-variant structure referenced in the naming campaign. Earlier reports also indicate that the Denza Z will adopt BYD’s DiSus-M suspension system, which uses sensor data to adjust body control with a response time of 10 milliseconds.

Design and development status

Spy images of the production version show a design closely aligned with the concept, including a rounded front end, frameless windows, and dual-element taillights. The rear wing seen on the concept is not present on the tested vehicle.

CarNewsChina reported that Denza executives confirmed the Z supercar is undergoing testing at the Nürburgring, with a rumoured output exceeding 1,000 hp.
