BYD today officially unveiled the Seal 08 DM-p PHEV, a new flagship mid-to-large-size coupe under the “Ocean Network” series. The model was included in the regulatory filing in February and first unveiled at BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 event in March. According to the latest declaration information, this plug-in hybrid variant achieves a WLTC pure-electric range of up to 300km.

In terms of exterior design, the Seal 08 features split-style front headlights with wave-shaped daytime running lights and deep, dynamic main light clusters. The rear echoes this theme with a wave-shaped taillight design. The vehicle measures 5150mm in length, 1999mm in width, and 1505mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3030mm. The body profile is characterised by flowing waistlines and is equipped with semi-hidden door handles. The roof accommodates a LiDAR unit and a segmented panoramic sunroof.

The interior adopts the “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” flagship cockpit design. Details such as the steering wheel, air conditioning vents, buttons, and speakers are accented with chrome finishes. The centre console features a floating square central screen, while the vehicle retains a column-mounted shifter design and select physical buttons. Rear passengers are provided with an independent air conditioning control screen, small tables, boss buttons, and a wide central armrest.

Regarding power, the new car will be available in both pure electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions:

  • PHEV Version: Equipped with a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system, the engine boasts a maximum power of 115kW (154 hp), while the drive motor reaches 200kW (268 hp). It is fitted with a 45.36kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering WLTC pure electric ranges of 270km and 300km.
  • EV Version: Built on an 800V high-voltage platform, it features second-generation Blade Battery technology with flash charging capabilities, replenishing 400km of range in 5 minutes. The four-wheel-drive version is expected to exceed 480kW (644 hp), with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of under 5 seconds.

First-quarter 2026 sales are 688,939 vehicles, down 30.5% with the previous year, according to China EV DataTracker. BYD retained its position as China’s largest NEV maker in March, holding a 22.8% retail market share.
