BYD Ocean network general manager Zhang Zhuo has revealed the interior of the Seal 08, marking the global debut of the model’s “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” flagship cabin ahead of its expected second-quarter launch.

Flagship cabin direction

The interior is described as a new-generation flagship cockpit, focused on a “relaxed” and “healing” design theme that extends BYD’s Ocean design language into the cabin. The reveal follows earlier regulatory filings that had not disclosed interior details, positioning this as the first official look inside the model.

The Seal 08 is part of BYD’s Ocean 8 Series dual-flagship lineup and is positioned as a mid-to-large fastback sedan at the top of the Ocean range.

Powertrain and platform

Regulatory filings confirm multiple powertrain configurations. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivers a combined 510 kW (684 hp), with a 190 kW front motor and a 320 kW rear motor. Rear-wheel-drive versions offer outputs of 255 kW and 320 kW.

The model is built on an 800 V high-voltage platform and uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery with lithium iron phosphate chemistry. The system targets a CLTC range exceeding 1000 km and supports megawatt-level flash charging, with BYD stating it can add 400 km of range in five minutes.

Chassis and dimensions

The Seal 08 measures 5150 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1505 mm in height, with a 3030 mm wheelbase. The curb weight is listed at 2040 kg, and the top speed is 240 km/h.

Chassis systems include rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A intelligent body control system. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit supports BYD’s God’s Eye B driver assistance system.

Product positioning

The Seal 08 continues the Ocean-S design language, featuring a fastback silhouette, closed front fascia, and full-width rear light bar. It sits above the Seal 07 in BYD’s sedan lineup and forms part of a broader push into the premium EV segment.

Pricing has not been officially confirmed, but earlier filings indicate an expected range of 300,000 to 350,000 yuan (42,000–49,000 USD), placing it against models such as the Tesla Model S, Nio ET7, and Xpeng P7.

Seal family sales context

In China, BYD’s Seal family posted monthly sales of around 20,000 to 30,000 units in early 2026, with March reaching roughly 28,000 units. The Seal 06 series remained the volume driver, with annual sales exceeding 190,000 units in 2024 and around 165,000 units in 2025. First-quarter 2026 deliveries for the Seal family were about 70,000 to 80,000 units, down year on year compared with 2025, amid increasing competition in the pure electric sedan segment.

Launch timeline

The Seal 08 was first unveiled at BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 event in March and has now completed its MIIT declaration process. The model is scheduled for market launch in the second quarter of 2026, with the Sealion 08 SUV expected to follow as part of the same flagship series.
