BYD‘s new Yuan Plus (named Atto 3 in the overseas market) has been added to the latest China’s New Energy Vehicle Purchase Tax Exemption Directory, featuring upgrades in battery technology, charging capabilities, and overall dimensions. This vehicle was first exposed by MIIT filings last month.

According to the published information, the new model will be equipped with either a 57.545 kWh or 68.547 kWh battery pack, delivering CLTC pure electric ranges of 540 km and 630 km, respectively. The vehicle adopts a completely new rear-wheel-drive pure electric platform, second-generation Blade battery technology, and advanced flash charging capabilities.

Exterior design

The new Yuan Plus (Atto 3) continues BYD’s Dynasty family design language. The front fascia features a silver grille panel flanked by slim, blackened headlights. The front bumper incorporates vertically-arranged ventilation openings on both sides, complemented by a trapezoidal cooling grille in the centre.

Body dimensions

The new model measures 4665/1895/1675mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 2770mm, representing a noticeable size increase over the current Yuan Plus, which measures 4455/1875/1615 mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. Available with either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, the new vehicle features semi-hidden door handles and customizable D-pillar panels with multiple colour options for enhanced personalisation.

Rear design

At the rear, the vehicle features a two-segment high-level brake light and rear window wiper. The taillights are integrated into a through-type decorative panel, creating a streamlined lighting effect. The rear bumper adopts a concave license plate frame layout, adding depth to the overall design.

Powertrain and charging

The new Yuan Plus (Atto 3) will be equipped with a rear-mounted single motor, available in two power configurations: 200kW (268hp) and 240kW (322hp). The second-generation Blade battery technology enables impressive charging performance – thanks to flash charging technology, the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in only 9 minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, charging time increases by just 3 minutes compared to normal conditions.

Atto 3 sales performance in China.

The Atto 3 is sold in many international markets. In China, however, it faces fierce competition, while it previously had strong sales, monthly volume hasn’t topped 10,000 units since last October, and in January and February of this year, it even plummeted to around 2,000 units.
