2026 BYD Seagull (Dolphin Mini/Surf) debuts at Beijing Auto Show with LiDAR and more range
The 2026 BYD Seagull (known as the Dolphin Mini or Dolphin Surf in overseas markets) made its debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, showcasing two major highlights alongside several detail refinements.
Key upgrades
The most significant improvements include a maximum range increase from 405km to 505km under CLTC standards, and the availability of an optional LiDAR system. The LiDAR-equipped variant will feature BYD’s “God’s Eye B” driver assistance system.
Exterior changes
While the overall design remains largely unchanged, the displayed model featured:
- A new red paint option
- New 16-inch wheels with 175/55 R16 tyre specifications
- LiDAR unit mounted on the roof
- Camera components on the front fenders
- A small blue light at the rear
- Dual wipers (upgraded from a single wiper)

Interior updates
The interior design maintains continuity with the current model, with refinements including:
- Simplified steering wheel buttons
- Smart driving paddles for the intelligent driving variant
- Interior-colored center console buttons
- Upgraded 50W wireless fast charging with cooling vent
- Single cup holder configuration
- Flip-top armrest box
Powertrain
According to previously released filing information, the new motor’s maximum power has been increased to 60kW (80hp), while the high-spec model’s CLTC range has been upgraded from 405km to 505km.
Official detailed specifications were not announced at the show.

The BYD Seagull hit its peak sales in China over the past year in April with 34,005 units. After selling 30,708 units in June, its sales have never returned to the 30,000+ mark.
This is because it is facing immense competitive pressure from the Geely Xingyuan, which was the top-selling new energy vehicle model in the Chinese market last year.
Due to Xingyuan’s outstanding performance, more and more competitors have emerged, including the Arcfox T1 launched last year and the Leapmotor A10 released last month.
