Chery has officially revealed the Tiggo X at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, positioning it as a smart luxury flagship SUV with a hybrid powertrain, off-road capability, and advanced driver assistance systems.

The model arrives as Chery continues restructuring its SUV lineup, following the recent Tiggo 7L launch and ongoing updates across the Tiggo family. It also enters a highly competitive full-size SUV segment increasingly dominated by plug-in hybrid models from major Chinese automakers.

Briefly about the Tiggo SUV family

The Tiggo lineup is Chery’s mainstream SUV product range, covering compact to full-size models.

Recent updates include the launch of the Tiggo 7L, which introduced a 147 kW turbocharged engine and a 2,720 mm wheelbase, starting at 10,900 USD, serving as a refreshed entry point for the mid-size segment.

The Tiggo X sits above this range as a flagship SUV, effectively extending the brand into the large seven-seat hybrid SUV category.

Market pressure from large SUV competition

The Tiggo X enters a segment that has recently seen strong demand growth driven by extended-range and plug-in hybrid SUVs.

BYD’s Great Tang is one of the most direct competitors in this space, recently recording over 30,000 pre-orders within 24 hours, with pricing starting from 36,460 USD.

This highlights increasing consumer demand for large, electrified SUVs with three-row seating, long-range capability, and strong performance positioning.

What the Tiggo X shows

The Tiggo X adopts a more rugged, upright SUV design compared to earlier Tiggo models, with a high bonnet line, wider wheel arches, and a boxier overall silhouette.

The model measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. It features a three-row, seven-seat layout and a body structure with approximately 85 percent high-strength steel.

Despite its flagship positioning, it retains conventional mechanical door handles, reinforcing its production-oriented design.

This context underscores the Tiggo X’s potential to reset Chery’s large SUV strategy in the domestic market, particularly in the increasingly competitive hybrid three-row SUV segment.

Powertrain and performance

The Tiggo X is powered by Chery’s hybrid system with a combined output of 476 hp and peak torque of 630 Nm.

It offers 1.5T and 2.0T internal combustion engine options paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The plug-in hybrid version offers an estimated 200 km of pure-electric range and a combined range exceeding 1,500 km under mixed driving conditions.

Chassis and off-road systems

Chery equips the Tiggo X with MRC electromagnetic adaptive suspension and a Snow Leopard full-time four-wheel-drive system.

These systems are designed to improve traction and stability across multiple terrains, positioning the model not only as a family SUV but also as a more capable all-road flagship within the Tiggo lineup.

Intelligent driving system

The Tiggo X features the Falcon Pilot 700 intelligent driving assistance system, integrating a lidar sensor setup.

It supports L2-level autonomous driving functions, including point-to-point assisted driving scenarios, while still requiring driver supervision.

Market positioning and internal context

The Tiggo X is positioned above the Tiggo 9L as Chery’s flagship SUV within its mainstream brand, sitting below the premium Exeed lineup.

However, according to China EV DataTracker, recent domestic performance data shows pressure in the upper Tiggo range. The Tiggo 9 C-DM recorded declining monthly sales in early 2026, dropping to 84 units in March 2026 after earlier peaks above 1,000 units in mid-2025.

This context underscores the Tiggo X’s potential to reset Chery’s large SUV strategy in the domestic market, particularly in the increasingly competitive hybrid three-row SUV segment.
