On December 3, Great Wall Motor’s Haval brand announced that its second-generation Haval H9 diesel-powered hardcore SUV will officially enter the market on December 5, with an expected price range of 238,900 – 252,900 yuan (32,800 – 34,700 USD). For reference, the second-generation Haval H9 launched in September is gasoline-powered, available in three trims, with a price range of 199,900 – 229,900 yuan (28,400 – 32,700 USD).

For the appearance, the diesel variant retains the same design as that of the gasoline-powered variant. The front face adopts a rectangular grille decorated with four horizontal chrome bars, paired with round retro headlights and a thick black bumper.

In the rear, there is a high-mounted brake light, vertical taillights, a spare tire, and a side-opening tailgate. Consumers can choose from two different rear designs: equipped with a spare tire or an external square storage unit. The length is 5070 mm and 4950 mm, respectively; while the width is 1976 mm and 1960 mm, respectively. The height and wheelbase are the same for both versions: 1930 mm and 2850 mm, respectively.

From the side, the body adopts a square shape, coupled with roof luggage racks as well as conventional door handles. The car runs on multi-spoke rims.

Power comes from a 2.4T diesel engine with a maximum power of 137 kW (184 hp) and a peak torque of 480 Nm, mated to a 9AT. BorgWarner’s TOD (Torque On Demand) intelligent four-wheel drive system is also present.

Inside, the cockpit is equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 14.6-inch central control screen, which can support intelligent voice interaction. There are physical buttons below the central control screen, and an off-road handle is provided in front of the co-pilot. The center console comes with a mobile phone wireless charging panel, a bulky gear lever, and more physical buttons for vehicle functionalities.

Lastly, in terms of its sales performance, the second-generation Haval H9 delivered more than 900 units in 5 days after its launch, with 6,029 units still to be delivered, according to the official. In October, 2,783 units of the second-generation Haval H9 were sold, based on available data.
