Changan Mazda has shared more information about its upcoming EZ-60 electric SUV, which is set to debut on April 23 at the Shanghai Auto Show. Positioned in the mid-to-premium segment, the production model remains faithful to Mazda’s “ARATA” concept, offering buyers a choice between pure electric and range-extender powertrains in an aerodynamically optimised package that measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,935 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a 2,902 mm wheelbase.

The interior design features a dual-tone colour scheme and a black floating roof. Its most notable element is a 26.45-inch 5K ultra-wide display. This screen is expected to combine functions such as digital instrumentation, media, and climate controls. Physical buttons are largely absent, indicating that most operations will be handled via the screen or voice input.

The EZ-60 also features a 23-speaker 7.1.4-channel audio system that supports Dolby Atmos. A rear control touchscreen allows passengers to adjust climate and entertainment settings. It has a cargo space that can be expanded from 350 litres to 2,036 litres, plus a 126-litre front trunk in the pure electric variant.

The SUV is built on Chang’an’s EPA platform, which is also shared with the Deepal S07, placing it in the mid-size category. The interior space is expected to resemble that of other models on the same platform. Powertrain options include a fully electric variant and a range-extender version. The range-extender model combines a 72 kw 1.5-litre engine serving as a generator with a potent 190 kw electric motor, drawing energy from a 31.73 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery that delivers 160 km of pure electric range. Mazda has yet to reveal specifications for the pure electric variant.

After its domestic launch, Changan Mazda plans to market the EZ-60 under the name Mazda CX-6e for overseas markets. However, competition in China’s NEV market remains intense, with major players such as Tesla, BYD, and Nio maintaining strong sales momentum. The earlier EZ-6 sedan sold 4,329 units between November 2024 and February 2025, which may indicate challenges in gaining broader market traction.

The EZ-60 will enter a competitive arena against established rivals like the Avatr 07 and Deepal S07, while also competing with Honda’s budget-friendly P7 and S7 EVS priced under 200,000 yuan (approximately 27,400 USD). While Mazda has yet to announce official pricing, we anticipate that the EZ-60 will command a premium over the Deepal S07’s price, in the 149,900 – 197,900 yuan (20,500 – 27,100 USD) range. This pricing strategy could prove crucial in China’s value-conscious electric vehicle (EV) market, where buyers increasingly demand both cutting-edge technology and competitive pricing in equal measure.
