This is BYD’s new Yangwang U8L hardcore off-road SUV, an elongated variant of the Yangwang U8. The official debut will be at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show on April 23. The new car was also spied earlier this month in China.
The Yangwang U8 first entered the Chinese market in October 2023, priced at 1.098 million yuan (150,400 USD), featuring capabilities such as 360° tank turn as well as wading and floating on water under emergency scenarios. In 2024, BYD sold 7,254 units of the Yangwang U8.
For reference, the Yangwang U8 has dimensions of 5319/2050/1930 mm and a wheelbase of 3050 mm. The Yangwang U8L’s body length is expected to reach 5600 mm, according to Chinese social media Sohu, and is likely to adopt a three-row six-seat layout. The Yangwang U8 also has an approach angle of 36.5°, a departure angle of 35.4°, a minimum ground clearance of 285 mm, and a minimum turning diameter of 11.52 m. Its standard trunk volume is 1031L and can be expanded to 2050L after the rear seats are folded down.
From the side, the Yangwang U8L adopts a golden exterior paint, paired with a black roof, shield-shaped rims, and hidden door handles. At the same time, the external rear spear tire has been removed.
BYD has not yet revealed the Yangwang U8L’s powertrain specs. We expect the specs to be not far off from that of the Yangwang U8 and will be equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye” intelligent driving technology. For reference, sitting on BYD’s e4 platform, the Yangwang U8 is powered by:
