Great Wall Motor (GWM) launched the second-generation Xiaolong Max AWD plug-in hybrid SUV under its Haval brand on April 16 in China, with a total of five trims ranging from 131,800 – 169,800 yuan (18,000 – 23,300 USD). Within the first day of launch, the new car received 16,368 firm orders.

The appearance adopts the “natural rhythmic aesthetics” design language, equipped with matrix headlights made up of 72 LED units, a dotted through-type light strip, and “Bright Galaxy” taillights made up of 332 628nm ultra-red LED units, combined with a floating roof, roof racks, and 19-inch five-spoke dual-color rims.

Positioned as a medium-sized SUV, the length, width, and height of the second-generation Haval Xiaolong Max are 4780/1895/1725 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2810 mm.

Five exterior colors are available: white, black, aurora green, forest green, and gray.

The advanced driving assistance system comes from the Coffee Pilot Plus, which adopts a pure vision camera solution, supported by three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and seven cameras to achieve city and highway navigation on autopilot on selected trims.

The onboard Hi4 plug-in hybrid system developed by GWM consists of an 85 kW (114 hp)/140 Nm 1.5L engine, a 70 kW (94 hp)/110 Nm front electric motor, and a 150 kW (201 hp)/350 Nm rear motor, mated to a 2-speed DHT. The combined system power is 238 kW (319 hp), the total torque is 595 Nm, the top speed is 180 km/h, and the 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 6.8 seconds. Two lithium iron phosphate battery pack capacities are offered: 18.74 kWh and 27.54 kWh (only on the high-end trims), providing a corresponding CLTC pure electric range of 110 km and 165 km, respectively. The lowest WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption is 0.97L/100km. GWM has not officially revealed the comprehensive range.

Under fast charging, it takes 30 to 20 minutes to recharge from 30% to 80% while slow charging takes three to four hours, depending on the trims.

The cockpit has a T-shaped layout with a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, a HUD (only on the top-of-line trim), and a 14.6-inch central control screen, powered by the CoffeeOS 3 smart cockpit system, which features both voice and facial recognitions.

Three interior colors are available: white, brown, and black.

The interior can seat five people as the standard. There are 28 storage spaces and a 540 L trunk, which can be expanded to 1366 L.

The front seats have 3-speed adjustable ventilation/heating and 8-point massage functions; the rear seats support heating and supports 2-speed backrest adjustment. Other configurations include a 50W wireless charging pad, OTA updates, remote control, WiFi hotspot, 64-color ambient lights, keyless entry, and steering wheel heating are all present.
