Mazda has shipped its first batch of all-electric Mazda 6e sedans (known in China as the Mazda EZ-6) to Europe. The shipment departed from Waigaoqiao Port in Shanghai, where 600 units were loaded bound for a port in Belgium. These vehicles are expected to arrive in May and will begin reaching European dealerships by the summer. This marks the official start of the Mazda 6e’s entry into the European market. Madza’s Chinese joint-venture manufacturing capabilities with Changan are helping accelerate the international rollout of new energy vehicles. Senior representatives from Changan Mazda, the Lingang Administrative Committee, and logistics partners attended the ceremony for the shipment.
The Mazda 6e made its European debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show on January 10. Based on the Chinese domestically sold Mazda EZ-6, the 6e is explicitly tailored for European driving conditions and customer preferences. It retains Mazda’s signature focus on driving dynamics and design while integrating Changan’s expertise in electrification. The vehicle was co-developed by teams from Changan Mazda’s Nanjing R&D Centre, Mazda’s headquarters in Hiroshima, and Mazda Europe R&D, ensuring the final product meets global design, safety, and performance standards.
Production of the Mazda 6e takes place at Changan Mazda’s Nanjing plant, which serves as the company’s exclusive base for new energy vehicle manufacturing. The plant combines Mazda’s established craftsmanship with intelligent production lines and Changan’s management system. According to Changan Mazda President Hidematsu Matsuda, the Mazda 6e has a fully compliant battery-electric drivetrain, advanced safety features, and a low-drag KODO design. It also offers what Mazda describes as an electrified version of its “Jinba-Ittai” driving philosophy, designed to deliver a responsive and engaging driving experience.
In the Chinese domestic market, the EZ-6 continues to evolve, with a new Egret White interior option introduced alongside the existing Chestnut Brown.
Mazda plans to expand its global New Energy Vehicle (NEV) portfolio, beginning with the world premiere of its second global electric vehicle—the Mazda EZ-60—at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. The company will introduce more electric models focused on international markets.
