According to the latest market data, the Denza D9 recorded sales of 1,587 units in March 2025 in Indonesia, capturing 2.2% of the market share. This impressive performance has propelled it to be the best-selling Chinese model in the Indonesian market, ranking 11th overall and just 13 units different from Suzuki’s flagship XL7 SUV, which ranks 10th.

This Indonesian launch follows BYD’s earlier entry into the market in January 2024, when the company introduced three new energy vehicle models: the Dolphin, Seal, and Atto 3. BYD began delivering these vehicles to Indonesian customers in June 2024.

Back in China, the Denza D9 has been dominating the MPV segment. In January 2025, it reclaimed the top position in MPV sales with 10,026 units sold. The momentum continued into February, with the Denza D9 DM-i (plug-in hybrid version) securing the top spot with 7,213 retail sales.

By March 2025, the Denza D9 maintained its leadership with 9,326 units sold, establishing itself as the number one MPV in sales volume with a significant lead over competitors. For the first quarter of 2025, the Denza D9 DM-i recorded sales of 25,598 units.

Editor’s comment

Industry analysts attribute the Denza D9’s success to its comprehensive package of features without significant weaknesses, making it a “perennial” favourite in the MPV market. The vehicle has consistently ranked among the top sellers since its launch in 2022.

This rapid success in both domestic and international markets demonstrates BYD’s growing influence in the global electric vehicle industry. It highlights the increasing acceptance of Chinese premium electric vehicles in Southeast Asian markets.
