New spy photographs have captured XPeng’s refreshed P7 sedan undergoing road tests, confirming the Chinese automaker will continue offering its distinctive “Peng Wing” edition with scissor-style doors. The lightly camouflaged prototype shows design elements consistent with the upcoming P7, which is expected to launch later this year.
The current P7i peng-wing edition retails for 289,900 yuan (40,000 USD) in China. We are anticipating similar pricing for the updated version when it reaches showrooms in the second half of 2025.
The test vehicle maintains the P7’s characteristic lighting signature, including its full-width LED light bar and vertical daytime running lights. The scissor door mechanism appears unchanged from the current implementation. Other notable features visible in the spy shots include a retractable rear spoiler, Brembo braking components, and 21-inch alloy wheels fitted with staggered Michelin pilot sport tyres – 245/40 R21 at the front and 275/35 R21 at the rear.
The prototype’s sensor suite lacks LiDAR hardware, suggesting XPeng may be evaluating a vision-only approach for its advanced driver assistance systems. This aligns with the company’s plans to begin production of its in-house Turing AI chip in the second quarter of 2025.
XPeng’s flagship sedan enters an increasingly crowded segment of the Chinese EV market. Key competitors include the tech-focused Xiaomi SU7, starting at 215,900 yuan (29,800 USD), and BYD′s 800V−platform Han L, priced at 219,800 yuan (30,400 USD). The previously available Hyper GT Wing Edition with gullwing doors has been discontinued, leaving XPeng’s scissor-door variant as one of the few remaining production sedans with vertical door mechanisms in this price segment.
While full specifications remain undisclosed, the updated P7 peng-wing edition will likely carry over the current model’s powertrain options. These include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration producing 348 kW with a 610 km CLTC range and a more efficient 203 kW rear-wheel-drive variant capable of 702 km on a single charge.
XPeng has not indicated whether the scissor-door configuration will be offered in markets beyond China. The company typically announces international availability following domestic launches.
