Xpeng has officially launched the MONA M03 Max, the top-spec version of its electric sedan, following its presentation during its “520” event for MONA series owners. The vehicle will be available in showrooms starting May 21, with the formal market launch scheduled for the end of the month.

The M03 Max features upgraded seating, with front-row seats offering three-way adjustable lumbar support using a triple-airbag system. This configuration is intended to improve posture and reduce fatigue during extended driving.

The interior includes a 1.22㎡ panoramic glass roof with a 99.9% UV-blocking layer. Additional features include a full-width electric air vent system and an electric liftback tailgate—both uncommon in this vehicle class.

The vehicle runs Xpeng’s Turing AI Driving Assistance System and the company’s Tianji Smart Cockpit. The system provides voice interaction and scenario-based functions and supports over-the-air software updates.

Performance specifications include a 160kW motor delivering 250Nm of torque. The M03 Max has a 62.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a CLTC-rated range of up to 580 kilometres. Fast charging allows charging from 30% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes. The car’s drag coefficient is listed at 0.194 Cd, one of the lowest among mass-produced electric sedans.

For autonomous driving, the M03 Max relies on a vision-only sensor suite. The system excludes LiDAR and uses dual NVIDIA Orin-X chips and seven high-definition cameras. It supports highway and urban navigation-guided pilot (NGP) functions and AI-based valet parking. Internal testing shows a high success rate for automated parking and consistent operation in urban environments.

The M03 Max was originally shown alongside the standard M03 during the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show. However, the release of the Max variant was postponed to allow for additional development of its autonomous driving features.

Priced at 155,800 yuan (approximately USD 21,500), the Max version costs 36,000 yuan more than the base model. It uses a torsion beam rear suspension, which is less advanced than the multi-link systems found in some competitors. Despite this, Xpeng expects the Max to help drive a projected total of over 200,000 MONA series unit sales in 2025. The base version currently records about 15,000 units in monthly sales.
