Denza has officially revealed exterior images of its new N8L model, which has also appeared in the latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) vehicle registration list. Positioned as another flagship vehicle following the N9, the N8L is a large plug-in hybrid SUV built on the e3 platform.

The six-seater SUV features a design language similar to the N9 and is expected to be priced between 350,000 and 400,000 yuan (48,500 to 55,500 USD) when it launches later this year.

Exterior design

Based on official and registration images, the N8L adopts Denza’s latest family design language with a substantial physical presence. The front features parallel daytime running lights identical to the N9, with headlights positioned vertically on both sides of the front fascia. The front bumper differs from the N9 with a trapezoidal air intake and active grille shutters, enhancing both visual appeal and aerodynamic performance.

The side profile includes a continuous waistline, flush door handles, and side-view cameras on the front fenders. The B, C, and D pillars feature glossy black finishes, creating a floating roof effect. At the rear, while the taillights resemble those of the N9, they feature subtle differences, and the license plate holder is positioned on the rear bumper for a cleaner look.

Drone integration

The N8L offers an optional drone version. When equipped with the BYD intelligent vehicle-mounted drone system, the vehicle height increases to 1,990mm, and the integrated roof platform supports one-touch takeoff and landing for mainstream drones, including DJI models.

Interior and technology

Though interior images haven’t been released, the N8L will feature a six-seat layout with independent second-row seats, likely equipped with power-adjustable leg rests, heating and ventilation functions, and provisions for small tables. Following the N9’s configuration, the new vehicle is expected to come standard with a 15.6-inch central control screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, possibly offering luxuries like an in-car refrigerator and rear entertainment screens.

For intelligent driving, the N8L will be equipped with the “God’s Eye B” (DiPilot 300) advanced driver assistance system, featuring a roof-mounted LiDAR that supports city and highway navigation assistance. Multiple screens are expected inside, including rear entertainment displays and a head-up display for multi-screen interaction. The intelligent voice interaction system supports four-zone recognition, allowing the system to respond to commands from passengers in different positions precisely.

Drivetrain and range

The N8L will utilise e3 platform with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0T engine and three electric motors. The combustion engine delivers a maximum power of 152 kW (204 hp), while the front electric motor produces 200 kW (268 hp), and each of the two rear motors generates 180 kW (241 hp). The combined system output reaches 560 kW (751 hp), with an expected 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 3 seconds and a 220 km/h top speed. The WLTC fuel consumption in charge-depleting mode is as low as 6.95L/100km.

For range, the N8L is equipped with a 46.99 kWh battery pack, providing a pure electric range of 170 km under WLTC conditions (160 km for the drone version). With a full tank and battery, the combined range exceeds 1,000 km. The vehicle supports fast and slow charging, with fast charging capable of increasing the battery level from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Chassis and competition

The N8L will likely feature the DiSus-A system, which supports rear-wheel steering, a tight turning radius, intelligent crab walking, and e3 parking capabilities. This gives the 5.2-meter vehicle the manoeuvrability of a compact car.

With dimensions of 5,200×1,999×1,820mm and a wheelbase of 3,075mm, the N8L meets large SUV standards with space that exceeds competitors’. It will compete with models like the Li Auto L8, AITO M7, and WEY Lanshan upon launch.

As a premium BYD brand, Denza has established a strong reputation with successful models like the D9. The N8L enhances Denza’s luxury family vehicle portfolio. With its competitive pricing and superior features compared to its more expensive N9 sibling, it may redefine value standards in the large six-seat SUV segment.
