Xpeng is set to unveil its new G7 mid-size SUV on Wednesday evening, with Chairman He Xiaopeng touting it as the first “AI car” to feature L3-level computing power. He also highlighted the G7 as a rare intelligent SUV that combines “hardcore technology with spacious comfort,” emphasizing its futuristic design, flowing lines, innovation, and sense of power.
The G7 is positioned as a mid-size SUV, measuring 4892mm in length, 1925mm in width, and 1655mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2890mm. Its youthful design includes a black lower surround, high ground clearance, and a large rear spoiler. Unlike the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng’s own G6, the G7 adopts a more traditional SUV shape, prioritizing interior space, especially for second-row headroom, making it more family-oriented.
Key design details include black exterior mirrors, hidden door handles, and privacy glass for the rear windows. The vehicle also features a panoramic sunroof, likely with a coating for effective sun protection. The interior, which was inadvertently revealed by a TV station, maintains a minimalist style, even omitting the instrument cluster.
A significant highlight is the “Chasing Light Panorama AR-HUD”, developed in collaboration with Huawei, which will debut in the G7. This system integrates Huawei’s hardware with Xpeng’s software to provide enhanced navigation and driving assistance. The AR-HUD boasts an 87-inch display area, capable of projecting information across multiple lanes and covering eight driving scenarios, including main roads, junctions, and curves.
The AR-HUD utilizes Huawei’s optical algorithms, systems, and components, combined with Xpeng’s imaging modules and AR composition engine, to overlay digital navigation onto the real-world view, aiding driver decision-making and improving safety. It offers an 85% NTSC color gamut, brightness exceeding 12,000 nits, and a contrast ratio of 1800:1, using self-developed LCoS imaging modules and automotive-grade chips. Features like lane-level navigation, assisted driving, and safety alerts are supported, with the AR “light carpet” adjusting for obstacles and slopes. The system also provides warnings for lane changes, pedestrians, and assists in adverse weather conditions.
The G7 will also be the first to feature Xpeng’s self-developed Turing AI chip, described as a “computing power ceiling,” capable of driving autonomous driving and intelligent cockpit large models.
In terms of powertrain, the G7 will be equipped with the same electric motor as the Xpeng G6 (TZ230XY01F30B), offering a peak power of 218 kilowatts (292 hp). It will be powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CALB. While the exact range is yet to be announced, low energy consumption is expected to be a key selling point.
The Xpeng G7 is designed to emphasize intelligence and spaciousness, incorporating numerous new technologies. It is expected to be priced around 250,000 yuan (36,000 USD) and will compete with models like the Tesla Model Y, Xiaomi SU7, and Zeekr 7X.
The G7 is set to debut and open for pre-sale on June 11, with deliveries planned for the third quarter of 2025.
