On July 3, the SAIC-made Audi A5L Sportback is officially opened for pre-sale, offering a total of five trims with a price range of 260,000 – 320,000 yuan (36,300 – 44,700 USD). The A5L is an elongated version of the Audi A5 manufactured for the Chinese market.
As the world’s first gasoline-powered vehicle equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS (advanced driving system), the Audi A5L Sportback has two lidars, 11 high-definition cameras, six millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars throughout the vehicle, according to the official. The system supports parking assist as well as highway and urban navigation on autopilot including dynamic obstacle avoidance, automatic cruise control, unprotected left-turn assist, and lane change assist.
The A5L Sportback is the SAIC-Audi joint venture’s first vehicle built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform. Power comes from an EA888 Evo5 2.0T engine, mated to a 7-speed S-tronic gearbox. The low-power engine variant outputs 150 kW (201 hp) and the high-power variant outputs 200 kW (268 hp). The peak torque is 400 Nm.
Additionally, the MHEV Plus 48V mild hybrid system and the Quattro ultra four-wheel drive system are onboard the vehicle, allowing the Audi A5L Sportback to drive under pure electric mode when the vehicle speed is less than 25 km/h.
Consumers can choose from seven exterior paints.
The Audi A5L Sportback measures 4903/1883/1427 mm with a 2922 mm wheelbase, which is 74 mm longer, 23 mm wider, and 17 mm lower than the Audi A5. The exterior features Audi’s four-ring logo that can be lit up, matrix LED headlights, Audi’s second-generation digital OLED taillights composed of 364 light units, a duck tail, a conventional trunk lid, frameless doors, and semi-hidden door handles.
From the side, the Audi A5L retains the Audi A5’s fastback design with the roof line starts to slope downward from the C-pillar.
Inside, and integrated curved screen consisting of a 11.9-inch instrument panel, a 14.5-inch central control screen, and a 10.9-inch co-pilot entertainment screen stood out for the cockpit, combined with a four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. Physical buttons are present on the center console for vehicle functions.
The sound system is supported by 20 Bang & Olufsen speakers.
A panoramic sunroof is also present.
There are seven airbags placed throughout the interior.
The maximum trunk volume can reach 1361 L.
