Mazda announced that cumulative pre-orders for its all-electric midsize SUV, the Mazda EZ-60, have exceeded 33,000 units as of July 11, following its presale commencement at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show on April 23. The model is scheduled for official market launch in September 2025.

The update was shared during the opening day of the 2025 Changchun International Auto Show, where the EZ-60 made its first appearance in Northeast China.

The EZ-60 incorporates aerodynamic improvements, including a “9-channel airflow system,” which Changan Mazda says reduces wind resistance by 60.8 counts, resulting in an estimated 41 kilometres of additional range. The design also lowers cabin wind noise, improves in-car voice recognition clarity by 8%, and generates up to 705 newtons of rear downforce at highway speeds for enhanced stability.

The vehicle’s exterior styling retains Mazda’s “Kodo” design language while integrating futuristic elements suited to electric architecture, such as a sealed front fascia and sleek profile.

The EZ-60 is equipped with a 4nm automotive-grade smart cockpit chip, claimed to offer 25–40% more processing power than older 7nm chips under the same power consumption. This hardware supports the SUV’s advanced infotainment and driver interface systems.

One of the interior highlights is a 100-inch naked-eye 3D head-up display (HUD) that uses binocular imaging and eye-tracking to project information directly into the driver’s field of view. It supports real-time navigation and converts into a 3D video display when parked. Additional interior features include a 26.45-inch 5K panoramic screen, electronic exterior mirrors, and a streaming digital rearview mirror.

The EZ-60 uses a seven-horizontal, five-vertical frame structure, built from 86.5% high-strength steel, including 2,000 MPa hot-stamped steel in crash-prone zones and 1,470 MPa cold-rolled steel in the roof beams. Mazda reports that the vehicle features nine airbags as standard, offering a total coverage area of 26,500 cm².

An L2-level assisted driving system is also standard, with over 30 integrated functions covering more than 200 real-world use scenarios. The automatic emergency braking system (AEB) supports emergency stops at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

CATL and other leading vendors supply battery systems for the EZ-60 and include an eight-layer protection system. The vehicle meets China’s upcoming 2026 EV battery safety requirements in advance.

The EZ-60 presale campaign operates under a 10 yuan (approximately 1.40 USD) deposit model, which offers participants daily accumulating credits that can be applied toward the vehicle’s final price. This promotion is non-binding and fully refundable. The deposit system has been designed to encourage early engagement and gauge market demand without requiring firm purchase commitments.

Mazda has begun exporting its China-made EVs to Europe, starting with the Mazda 6e (known domestically as the EZ-6), with 600 units shipped from Shanghai to Belgium in April 2025. European sales will begin in September. The upcoming EZ-60 SUV will also be exported to Europe under the name Mazda CX-6e, with exports expected to follow its Chinese market launch in September 2025. Both models are built by the Changan Mazda joint venture.
