Xpeng G6 EREV spotted in testing, reportedly offering a 1,400-kilometer range
Spy shots of what appears to be an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the Xpeng G6 have surfaced on Chinese social media, hinting at a potential expansion of the G6 lineup. While Xpeng has not officially confirmed the model, the camouflaged prototype retains the fastback silhouette of the existing battery-electric G6 SUV. Still, it adds several design changes that suggest a new powertrain.
The most notable difference is the presence of a visible exhaust outlet and modified underbody elements, consistent with a range-extender configuration. According to unconfirmed Chinese media reports, the EREV model will utilise a gasoline-powered generator to recharge the battery, targeting a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,400 kilometres.
This new variant would represent a shift in Xpeng’s current EV-only G6 strategy. The EREV model is expected to be sold alongside the battery-electric G6, rather than replacing it.

The battery-electric 2025 Xpeng G6 was officially launched in China on March 13. It is built on an LFP battery platform and powered by a 218 kW, rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 450 Nm of torque. The G6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 202 km/h. Power consumption is rated at 12.5 kWh per 100 km.
All trims feature Xpeng’s new 5C “AI battery” ultra-fast charging system, which the company says can deliver 450 km of range in 10 minutes or charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes under optimal conditions. In low-temperature environments down to -30°C, the charge time is 15 minutes and 20 seconds.
Xpeng also highlights enhanced battery safety features, including claimed resistance to surface temperatures of 1,000 °C, 80-ton side pressure, and 2,000-joule impacts from underneath.
The 2025 G6 measures 4,758 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase. Exterior updates include a 1,942 mm LED light strip, new paint colours (Starry Purple and Cloud Beige), and dark grey-themed wheels and interior trim on select models.
Inside, the G6 is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SA8295P chip. It also incorporates Xpeng’s proprietary large language model, X-GPT.
Driver assistance is handled by the Turing intelligent driving system, which uses dual Nvidia Orin processors and multiple cameras and sensors. Features include Navigate on Autopilot for urban and highway driving, remote parking, and straight-line summon. A blue light on the vehicle’s exterior signals when autonomous functions are active.

The cabin features revised materials in the charging zone, “cloud-sense” front seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions, and a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror. The G6 also boasts class-leading interior storage, featuring an 8.9-litre centre console box and a rear cargo area of 647 litres, which can be expanded to 1,752 litres with the seats folded down.
While no official timeline has been provided for the EREV version, the prototype’s advanced stage suggests it may reach production before the end of 2025.
