Leapmotor D16 with dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips will costs around 42,100 USD, report says
The “official images” of the Leapmotor D16 full-size SUV under the brand’s D series are circulating in Chinese social media. Previous reports indicated that the series is planned to have two models: a full-size MPV and a full-size SUV. The Leapmotor D16 is expected to be mass-produced in the first quarter of 2026 and delivered in the first half of 2026.

At this time, it is not yet official whether the car will be called the Leapmotor D16 or D19.

In December last year, Leapmotor founder, Zhu Jiangming, revealed that the company will launch four series, A, B, C, and D, over the next three years, covering the 60,000 to 300,000 yuan (8,400 to 42,100 USD) market, with 13 to 14 models. The D series, priced between 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (28,100 to 42,100 USD), will be positioned as “super-luxury products at affordable prices.”
Then in July this year, Leapmotor Senior Vice President, Cao Li, also stated that the D series SUV is the brand’s first flagship model to reach the 300,000 yuan price point and has already completed summer testing.

Earlier, Leapmotor released a group photo of its models conducting summer testing in Turpan, China, dubbed the hottest place in China. There were as many as 20 vehicles in the photo, including new models with various degrees of camouflage, covering sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, and MPVs.

One of the highlights of the D-series will be the dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chipsets. One for the intelligent cockpit, the other for advanced driving assistance.
On October 16, Leapmotor will hold a technology conference. The D16 is likely to be officially unveiled at that time.

As of August 21, the cumulative delivery volume of Leapmotor has exceeded 900,000 units, according to the official announcement. Just two months ago in June, the cumulative delivery volume was at 800,000 units. As a result, Leapmotor has raised its 2025 annual sales target to between 580,000 to 650,000 units, and plans to set next year’s goal to one million units.
