BYD has filed new regulatory documents for its luxury Yangwang U7 model, revealing a power boost in an updated variant. According to filings submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the new version will feature increased electric motor output, pushing the combined power from 960 kW (1287 hp) to 1,000 kW (1341 hp).

The dimensions of the vehicle remain consistent at 5,360 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm. The curb weight continues to be 3,223 kg.

Like its predecessor, the new U7 variant will be equipped with BYD’s 2.0-litre BYD4H20 engine producing 200 kW. The most noticeable update comes in the electric drivetrain, which now features four permanent magnet synchronous motors with peak powers of 260 kW, 260 kW, 240 kW, and 240 kW, respectively.

The vehicle continues to use lithium iron phosphate batteries, with battery cells produced by Guangxi Findreams Battery Co., Ltd., while the battery pack is handled by Changsha Findreams Battery Co., Ltd.

The Yangwang U7 is the world’s first “four-electric” flagship sedan, integrating technologies in its battery, electric motors, electronic control systems, and the DiSus-Z electromagnetic suspension system. This suspension system, which applies electromagnetic principles previously used in aircraft carrier electromagnetic catapults and maglev trains, is a global first for automobiles.

Other details.

The Disus-Z fully electronic vertical body control system uses data from lidar and cameras to detect road conditions half a second in advance. This allows the suspension to automatically adjust the vehicle’s height and damping for a smoother ride.

The Yangwang U7 is the brand’s third model, following the U8 SUV and U9 sports car. With a starting price of 628,000 yuan (87,150 USD), the U7 aims to compete with high-end sedans from established luxury brands such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8L.
