A recently published list of the top 20 fastest-accelerating production new energy vehicles (NEVs) worldwide, encompassing both plug-in hybrids and pure electric models, reveals a triumph for Chinese automakers, with the top three positions all claimed by Chinese brands.

The GAC Hyptec SSR 2024 Sprint Speed Edition, a supercar from GAC’s premium brand Hyptec, leads the pack with an astonishing 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 1.9 seconds. Following closely are the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra at 1.98 seconds and the Zeekr 001 FR 2025 model at 2.02 seconds, securing a clean sweep for Chinese manufacturers in the top three.

Further down the list, Chinese brands continue to make a strong showing, with models like the IM L6, Xiaomi SU7, Zeekr 007, and Yangwang U7 all making it into the 11th to 20th positions. The Tesla Model 3 also features, ranking 20th with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds.

The list highlights a wide range of pricing, from the most affordable, the four-wheel-drive BYD Han L, priced under 40,000 USD, to the most expensive, the Lamborghini Revuelto, which commands a price tag nearing 900,000 USD.

This performance by Chinese NEVs comes as China is reportedly considering new national standards for passenger vehicles. A draft proposal suggests that after each power-on or ignition, passenger vehicles should default to an operating state where their 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time is no less than 5 seconds.
