Chery is preparing a new compact SUV for launch in 2026, with spy photos showing a test vehicle currently referred to under the internal codename T1Q. Report from Auto-home indicates the model will likely be marketed as the Tiggo 5L, positioned as a smaller sibling to the recently updated Tiggo 8. The vehicle is expected to expand Chery’s compact SUV lineup and offer both traditional gasoline and plug‑in hybrid options.
The interior of the T1Q, as seen in spy photos, closely follows the Tiggo 8’s design language. A digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel, while a vertically oriented central touchscreen dominates the dashboard. Below the screen, a small panel of physical buttons is retained, and the cabin also includes a wireless charging pad, a piano-style gear selector, and a three‑spoke multifunction steering wheel. Observers noted that the door handle design appears integrated with the speaker grille, creating a subtle yet distinctive element in the interior layout.
On the exterior, the T1Q continues the Tiggo 8 family’s styling cues. The front fascia features split-type headlamps and a grille with a radial decorative pattern, complemented by a full-width lower air intake. The rear is expected to feature a through-type tail-light design. The vehicle’s side profile features a coupe-like roofline and traditional door handles, creating a youthful, dynamic visual impression.
Mechanically, the T1Q is reported to be built on Chery’s modular T1X platform. Chery plans to offer both a conventional 1.5‑litre internal combustion engine version and a plug-in hybrid variant. This dual-powertrain strategy aligns with the company’s broader effort to provide flexible options for customers seeking either conventional or electrified powertrains.
The Tiggo 5L will be positioned below the upcoming 2026 Tiggo 8, offering a smaller alternative while retaining many of the design and technology elements of its larger sibling. The 2026 Tiggo 8, also known as the fifth-generation model in China, is offered in four trims, with official prices ranging from 99,900 to 129,900 yuan (approximately 13,200–17,200 USD).
