Stellantis-backed Leapmotor has officially entered the South American market, launching operations in Brazil and Chile this month. The company also showcased its latest models at the São Paulo Auto Show.

Leapmotor announced its intention to offer a full range of electrical products, including BEVs and EREVs, across South America, starting with Brazil. This expansion will leverage Stellantis’s established dealership network and after-sales service system, aiming to provide South American customers with innovative technology and deeply integrated localised electric mobility solutions.

Currently, Leapmotor has introduced the pure electric and extended-range versions of its SUV C10, alongside the mid-size pure electric SUV B10, in both Brazil and Chile. At the São Paulo Auto Show, the company also unveiled the six-seater electric SUV C16. By 2025, Leapmotor plans to establish 36 sales and service outlets across 27 cities in Brazil and five outlets in Chile. This expansion, supported by Stellantis’s existing channel resources, is designed to ensure a comprehensive customer experience.

In addition to its vehicle offerings, Leapmotor is rolling out its LEAP+ connected platform, which integrates features such as digital keys, remote vehicle control, and charging navigation. The company has also partnered with local charging service providers, such as Zletric and GreenV, to offer charging solutions and home charger installation services to its users.

Leapmotor’s global footprint has expanded rapidly since its formal entry into the European market last year. Through its joint venture with Stellantis, Leapmotor International, the company has established a presence in over 30 overseas markets outside of China by June this year. These markets span Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

Leapmotor recently set an ambitious sales target of 1 million units by 2026. It broke this down into 900,000 units from the domestic market and 100,000 units from overseas. Data shows that from January to October this year, Leapmotor’s cumulative export volume exceeded 44,000 units. While this makes Leapmotor the top exporter among new Chinese EV brands and places it among the leaders in core European markets like Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, the relatively concentrated nature of its current overseas markets and the nearly doubled sales target present a considerable challenge for Leapmotor’s international ambitions by 2026.
