BYD’s Dynasty Network confirmed that its upcoming flagship full-size SUV, codename Dynasty-D, first shown at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, will enter the market in the second quarter of 2026 following an internal schedule adjustment, as reported by Tencent-Auto. The model, which measures around 5.2 meters in length and will offer both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations, was initially planned for release this year. Representatives stated that the launch shift reflects intensified competition in China’s large-SUV segment and the need for further refinement before final market introduction. The vehicle will continue using an existing dynasty-themed name rather than adopting a new IP.

The flagship SUV is the largest model in the Dynasty lineup and is positioned to meet the needs of both family users and business travellers. The dual seating layouts are intended to support varied passenger scenarios, with the 6-seat version emphasizing second-row comfort and the 7-seat version targeting broader family usage.

Design details shown at the Shanghai Auto Show indicate that the model adopts BYD’s newest “Dragon Face Reborn” styling approach. Features include an upgraded “dragon whisker” chrome bar spanning the front fascia and integrating a 2.4-meter laser-engraved light strip. The prominent headlamps are expected to use OLED technology, while the lower front section features a trapezoidal grille with AGS active air-intake shutters. The side profile features a floating-roof aesthetic and hidden door handles, and the rear features a wide, continuous taillight element paired with dual, independent high-mounted brake lights.

The interior draws inspiration from the Forbidden City’s symmetrical layout, combining a triple-screen dashboard with a three-spoke steering wheel. Materials include eco-friendly suede and matte carbon-fibre elements. The second row is equipped with zero-gravity seats that support electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and pulse-massage functions.

Technically, the SUV integrates BYD’s “God’s Eye B” driver-assistance system, which uses one lidar sensor, 12 cameras, and an Nvidia Orin-X computing platform rated at 254 TOPS. The model is also expected to support an onboard drone system capable of dynamic takeoff and landing. Power will come from BYD’s DM 5.0 hybrid architecture, pairing a 1.5-litre dedicated hybrid engine with front- and rear electric motors for four-wheel drive; pure-electric range is projected to exceed 200 kilometres. The chassis is expected to feature the DiSus-A adjustable suspension system along with rear-wheel steering.

In 2025, several full-size SUVs around 5.2 meters in length entered the Chinese market, providing context for BYD’s upcoming Dynasty flagship. The IM LS9 measures 5,279 mm and offers a six-seat layout with an extended-range hybrid system combining dual motors and a 1.5 L range-extender engine, alongside lidar-based driver-assistance systems. The Lynk & Co 900 measures 5,240 mm, features a six-seat layout, plug-in hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive, and a 3,160 mm wheelbase. The Nio ES8 measures 5,280 mm, with six- or seven-seat layouts, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, and a high-voltage battery enabling a CLTC range of up to 635 km. These models represent the 5.2-meter full-size SUV segment in China, showing the size, seating, and drivetrain characteristics of comparable vehicles in the market.
