China‑only Buick Electra Encasa MPV, one of Buick’s largest ever, set for December 5 launch
The 2026 Buick Electra Encasa MPV, built by the SAIC‑GM joint venture, is scheduled to go on sale in China on December 5. The model made its global debut at the 2025 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition and is the first MPV under Buick’s new-energy Electra sub-brand, built on the company’s “Xiaoyao” architecture.
The Electra Encasa measures 5260 mm in length, 2000–2023 mm in width, 1835 mm in height, and has a 3160 mm wheelbase, making it the largest Buick currently sold in China.
Its exterior features a closed‑grille front fascia and narrow LED headlamps. The cabin includes a triple‑screen setup at the front and a 21‑inch 4K rear-cabin display. A 50‑inch panoramic AR‑HUD and rear-seat control panels are included. The interior also offers gesture-controlled sliding doors, adjustable seats, and air suspension.
The plug-in hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 132 kW with an electric motor and a lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery pack. Certification data indicate a pure-electric range of 224 km under the CLTC cycle and a combined range of up to 1320 km. The vehicle is reported to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.
The Qualcomm SA8775P chip supports driver-assistance and cabin systems. The advanced driver‑assist suite from software partner Momenta uses lidar, radar, and cameras to provide urban Navigation On Autopilot, all-scenario parking assistance, and continuous perception.
The Electra Encasa follows the 2025 launch of the Electra L7 sedan, the first model under Buick’s Electra sub-brand. The L7 is a mid-to-large extended-range sedan that features a range-extended EREV powertrain and driver-assist systems from Momenta. Together, the L7 and Encasa demonstrate the application of the Xiao Yao architecture across both sedan and MPV body types.
The Electra Encasa’s size, plug-in hybrid powertrain, and multi-screen cabin place it among the largest and most technologically equipped MPVs offered by Buick in China. Its combination of 224 km pure-electric range and 1320 km total range positions it within the country’s electrified MPV segment alongside other plug-in hybrid models.
