Mercedes-Benz VLE electric MPV revealed in spy photos ahead of March 10 global debut
Spy photos of the all-new, China-produced pure electric Mercedes-Benz VLE have recently surfaced, revealing key details ahead of its global debut scheduled for March 10. The vehicle, slated for local production by Fujian Mercedes-Benz, is the first model built on the brand’s new VAN.EA pure electric architecture platform. Following the VLE, a VLS series is also expected to be introduced.
The VLE is engineered with an 800V electrical architecture, supporting both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. It will offer a versatile interior, accommodating up to an 8-seat layout, catering to a range of passenger and family needs.
Design-wise, the VLE incorporates Mercedes-Benz’s latest family styling cues. Teaser images previously released by the automaker showcased a sophisticated brown paint finish. The front fascia is expected to feature an enclosed grille with an illuminated outline, complemented by headlights that house two three-pointed star motifs and a through-type light strip.
From the latest spy shots, the VLE presents a sleek profile with a slanted windshield that flows into a gently sloping roofline. Its waistline appears notably higher than that of the current Mercedes-Benz V-Class, contributing to a more compact window design. Modern touches include hidden door handles, a small rear spoiler, and vertically arranged taillights.
According to Chinese auto media Autohome, Mercedes-Benz has put the VLE through rigorous testing, including wind tunnel experiments, high-speed and extreme dynamic assessments, and extensive long-distance trials.
During a 1100 km long-distance test from Stuttgart to Rome, the vehicle demonstrated impressive efficiency, requiring only two 15-minute fast charges to complete the journey. Its rear-wheel active steering system proved particularly advantageous, enhancing maneuverability on winding mountain roads and through narrow Italian streets. Inside, the VLE will be equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS infotainment system.
