Arcfox, the NEV brand of BAIC, officially commenced pre-sales for its updated Alpha S5 sedan yesterday. The new model, available in six variants, introduces a refreshed design, an enhanced intelligent cabin, and a new EREV option alongside its existing pure electric offering. Pre-sale prices for the Alpha S5 range from 117,800 to 178,800 yuan (17,100 to 25,900 USD).
The new Alpha S5’s front fascia features a visible active air intake grille. The side profile is accentuated by frameless doors and a two-tone floating roof. At the rear, a 3430 cm² retractable spoiler is provided. Customers can choose from seven exterior colours, including new trendy options like Phantom Green, Varna Blue, and Lava Grey. The vehicle’s dimensions have been subtly increased, with the length growing by 66mm, now measuring 4886mm in length, 1930mm in width, and 1480mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2900mm.
In terms of intelligent driving, the Alpha S5 introduces a “Smart Driving Blue Light”. This feature follows the Arcfox Alpha S (L3 version), receiving L3 autonomous driving admission from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The new Alpha S5 will be equipped with the BAIC Yuanjing intelligent assisted driving system, with the blue light illuminating to indicate the system’s operational status.
The front passenger seat boasts a zero-gravity sport cloud velvet design with an integrated leg rest. The headliner features a 256-colour aurora ambient lighting system. Interior colour options now include a new Fiery Brown, alongside Energy Black and Light Grey.
Under the hood, the new Alpha S5 not only continues to offer its pure electric powertrain but also introduces a range-extended version. The EREV model is powered by a 1.5L engine paired with a single electric motor. The engine delivers a maximum power of 77kW, while the electric motor provides a 200 kW (268 hp). It is equipped with a 27.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 230 km and a combined range of 1450km. Fast charging capabilities allow the battery to replenish from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes.
