BYD Song Ultra EV breaks cover ahead of March 5 pre-sales
The BYD Song Ultra EV made its first public appearance in production form on March 3, 2026, transitioning from previously released official renders and camouflaged test mules. The physical reveal serves as the final precursor to the model’s pre-sale launch, which is scheduled for BYD’s Technology Day on March 5, according to Autohome.
Intelligent Driving
The production vehicle confirms the inclusion of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, a first for the Song family. This hardware supports the “God’s Eye” B (DiPilot 300) intelligent driving suite, which utilises a 300 TOPS computing platform. The system is designed to provide urban and highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA). Additional hardware includes high-definition cameras on the front fenders and side mirrors, enabling 360-degree environmental perception.
Interior Layout
The cabin features a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating central screen and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster. Leveraging a 2,840 mm wheelbase, the Song Ultra EV introduces “Big Bed Mode,” in which the front seats fully recline to meet the rear seat cushions. The centre console is equipped with dual 50W wireless charging pads, a crystal-textured drive selector, and physical controls for frequently used multimedia functions.
Powertrain and Battery
The Song Ultra EV is built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo and uses a rear-mounted single motor (TZ200XYAV) with a maximum output of 270 kW (362 hp). The vehicle reaches a top speed of 210 km/h. FinDreams supplies the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade batteries in two configurations:
| Battery Capacity | CLTC Range | Curb Weight (kg) |
| 75.616 kWh | 620 km | 1,990 |
| 82.732 kWh | 710 km | 2,050 |
Price
Official pre-sale pricing will be announced on March 5. Market estimates suggest a starting price of 180,000 yuan (26,130 USD). This creates a 9,800 yuan (1,420 USD) price gap compared to the Song L EV Smart Driving Edition, which starts at 189,800 yuan (27,550 USD).
Market Positioning
BYD aims to deliver 20,000 Song Ultra EVs per month to defend its B-segment market share. The model is positioned to capture demand for high-ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) electric SUVs as BYD shifts focus toward its “God’s Eye” technology rollout. Production is currently assigned to the Zhengzhou and Changsha manufacturing bases.
