The GWM Tank 700 Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid SUV, with 190 km of WLTC range and a 59.05 kWh battery pack, released official interior images in China for 528,000 yuan (76,770 USD). Its domestic name is Tank 700 Hi4-Z. Customer deliveries for the 715 kW flagship are scheduled to begin in the Chinese market in Q2 this year.

Interior Tech

The newly revealed interior features a wrap-around design intended to push the Tank brand further into the luxury segment. The cockpit includes a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a full LCD instrument cluster, and a 16.2-inch floating central control screen.

Interestingly, GWM has opted for an exceptionally chunky, knurled metallic finish on the drive mode selector. This physical rotary dial is massive, occupying a significant portion of the centre console and featuring deep grooves that seem designed for use with heavy off-road gloves. It’s a polarising tactile choice that prioritises mechanical “clunky” feedback over the minimalist touch-surfaces found in rivals like the Aito M9.

Rear passengers receive second-row focus. The cabin includes a foldable ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, integrated privacy curtains, and a panoramic sunroof. To support this configuration, the vehicle maintains a 3,000 mm wheelbase and total dimensions of 5105/2061/1985 mm. The seats feature diamond-pattern stitching and thick padding for long-distance comfort.

Exterior and ADAS

The Hi4-Z maintains a honeycomb-patterned grille and three-section air intakes. The boxy silhouette is complemented by wide wheel arches and a side-opening rear door with an external spare tyre. The roof houses a LiDAR sensor, confirming that this variant will support the manufacturer’s high-level autonomous driving functions, including navigation on autopilot (NOA).

This reveal follows the March 5 debut of the Tank 700 Hi4-Z, which showcased the model’s technical upgrades. The launch was preceded by GWM Chairman Wei Jianjun’s “Kirin” teaser on social media.

The Hi4-Z uses a 2.0T plug-in hybrid system with an engine output of 185 kW. Combined with front and rear motors, the total system output reaches 715 kW (958 hp).

While the 59.05 kWh battery offers 190 km of EV range, the massive 3,110 kg curb weight suggests that real-world efficiency might struggle to match the 8.45 L/100km homologated rating once that battery is depleted. It feels like a powerhouse designed to bully the Mercedes G-Class on paper, but we’ll see if the decoupled 4WD can actually handle technical climbs without a mechanical driveshaft.
