Denza’s Z9 GT has accumulated “tens of thousands” of orders, claims general manager Li Hui, as the BYD-backed premium brand accelerates production to address delivery delays.
Production under pressure
Li said he visited Denza’s Shenzhen-Shantou production base to oversee output increases, as the model’s order intake continues to exceed supply. The factory has been operating continuous 24-hour shifts for three months, with daily output now exceeding 100 units.
Despite the ramp-up, Li indicated that current capacity remains insufficient to meet demand. Delivery timelines are currently quoted at 4–6 weeks, with certain variants requiring up to six weeks.
Sales and scaling expectations
Denza reported selling 7,133 vehicles in March, including 738 Z9 units. Management expects further growth in the coming months, with internal estimates suggesting monthly sales could reach 20,000 units if production constraints are resolved.
The Z9 GT is positioned as a flagship sedan intended to compete with established premium models such as the Porsche Panamera. Li stated that the vehicle’s luxury positioning exceeds that benchmark, though no comparative metrics were provided.
Product positioning and specs
The Denza Z9 GT is offered in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants, built on BYD’s e3 platform, featuring a tri-motor drive and rear-wheel steering.
The plug-in hybrid version delivers a combined CLTC range of up to 1,301 km, while fast charging is reported to reduce charging times to under 10 minutes under certain conditions.
The model starts at 269,800 yuan (37,300 USD), placing it below traditional European luxury competitors while offering comparable size and performance specifications.
Infrastructure expansion supports demand
The Z9 GT’s charging capability is tied to BYD’s rapid infrastructure rollout. The company recently announced it had deployed 5,000 flash charging stations within 27 days, covering 297 cities across China.
These stations support high-power charging, enabling compatible vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes and to 97% in about 9 minutes under standard conditions.
BYD plans to expand this network further, targeting 20,000 stations nationwide by the end of 2026, as charging speed and availability become key competitive factors in China’s EV market.
Delivery bottlenecks and supply chain factors
According to company statements, production ramp-up is affected by multiple factors, including a wide range of configurations and colour options, as well as component supply coordination. The company is also increasing logistics capacity through multiple transport methods to accelerate deliveries.
Dealers have reportedly faced shortages of display vehicles in recent weeks, reflecting tight supply conditions.
Industry push toward fast charging
The Z9 GT’s fast-charging positioning aligns with broader developments in China’s battery sector.
