A new variant of Xiaomi’s mid-to-large SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, has appeared in the latest batch of new vehicle registration catalogues released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

According to the filing information, the new model maintains the same exterior dimensions, measuring 4999mm in length, 1996mm in width, and 1600-1608mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3000mm.

In terms of powertrain, the newly registered model features a rear-wheel-drive single-motor layout with a maximum power output of 235kW (315hp). For energy storage, the vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL.

The filing also reveals that the new model will offer more personalisation options, including newly added 20-inch “rice-shaped” and “plum blossom” wheel designs for consumers to choose from.

Notably, the new entry-level variant has a curb weight of 2200kg, a reduction of 115kg compared to the standard version’s 2315kg.

Xiaomi has not yet announced the official name, specific range, or launch date for this new CATL-powered YU7 variant. As a reference, the current Xiaomi YU7 is priced between 253,500 yuan (36,700 USD) and 329,900 yuan (47,800 USD).

The current YU7, launched on June 18, 2025, initially experienced explosive order growth, leveraging Xiaomi’s vast user base and extensive marketing spearheaded by Lei Jun. Within three minutes of its launch, firm orders for the YU7 surpassed 200,000 units, reaching 289,000 in an hour, and over 240,000 locked orders within 18 hours.

However, the March sales figure hints that its stock backlog is nearly cleared.

Editor’s comment

The weight reduction of this new Xiaomi YU7 might come from a lighter battery. Some bloggers believe that this new YU7 could potentially use the same 73kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack solution as the new Xiaomi SU7. Currently, the lowest-spec Xiaomi YU7 uses a 96.3kWh battery.

A smaller battery means lower costs, which could reduce the price of the Xiaomi YU7.
