Hyundai Motor has officially announced that its electrification brand Ioniq has entered the Chinese market, establishing a dedicated electric ecosystem known as “Ioniq Universe.” Alongside this strategic move, two new energy concept cars – Venus Cconcept and Earth Concept – made their global debut.

At the upcoming Beijing Auto Show 2026, Ioniq will unveil its first mass-production vehicle specifically designed for the Chinese market. Over the next three years, the brand plans to roll out a range of battery electric and extended-range electric vehicle models covering mid-to-large segments in both SUV and coupe body styles.

Since launching its first-generation eco-friendly dedicated platform and the initial Ioniq model in 2016, the brand has undergone a decade of technological advancement. Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP pure electric platform, the lineup includes models such as Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9. The Ioniq series has achieved cumulative sales exceeding 550,000 units across multiple countries and regions worldwide.

Ioniq Universe: A China-centric ecosystem

To deliver a differentiated electrification experience, Hyundai is building a tailored ecosystem for Chinese consumers called Ioniq Universe. In this conceptual universe, Chinese consumers are positioned as the eternal centre – the Sun – while all future Ioniq models and services in China orbit around them like planets. Based on this philosophy, all Ioniq products in China will be named after planets that orbit the Sun.

The Venus Concept and Earth Concept are the first two “planets” revealed in the Ioniq Universe, representing the initial tangible results of Hyundai’s new China strategy and serving as indicators for future production models.

Venus Concept: emotional dynamism

The Venus Concept features a gold exterior with a single-curve integrated profile. The vehicle incorporates a lightweight frame-style roof, transparent spoiler, and racing centre-lock style forged wheels. A distinctive V-shaped lighting system, floating transparent mirrors, and brake discs inspired by the “Golden Record” design give the exterior a contemporary flair.

Inside, crystal-inspired ambient lighting combined with surrounding halo illumination creates an immersive, driver-centred cockpit. Sculptural “Venus Curve” seats balance comfort and sportiness, with seatbacks featuring a contrasting design of smooth suede and metallic chrome gold materials.

Earth Concept: rugged vitality

The Earth Concept draws inspiration from Earth’s vitality and resilience. Its body features an Aurora Shield colour scheme, with an integrated body profile and sharp crystal-textured lines that echo geological formations. Sharp gradient lighting systems outline subtle “H” brand identifiers. Integrated roof rails and hidden dual-opening doors enhance daily practicality.

The interior centres on a “Little Earth” concept, creating an “Air” design system that establishes a quiet, protective cabin environment. Air-hug seats utilise soft air modules to ensure comfort for passengers of all ages.

Localised intelligence and technology

Hyundai is leveraging local Chinese talent and technology to create localised intelligent solutions for Ioniq. In terms of autonomous driving, Hyundai has partnered with Momenta to develop an AI autonomous driving solution optimised based on complex Chinese road data for local conditions.

Regarding range, in addition to pure electric vehicles, the brand will introduce extended-range technology, combining Hyundai’s internal combustion engine expertise with electrification technology to address user range concerns.

Last year, Hyundai launched an EV named EO in China, which is also based on the E-GMP platform.
