The brilliant Aston Martin V12 Zagato will come to China, but it won’t be cheap. Chinese media report today that it will cost 12 million yuan, or 1.8 million US dollar. Aston Martin earlier announced the new supercar would cost 330.000 pound (513.000 USD), without local taxes.

Taxes in China are indeed very high, there is a 25% import tax on list price, 40% consumption tax (on cars with engines bigger than 4 liter) and a 17% value added tax.

Let’s see how much Aston and its Chinese dealer still earn (calculation):

330 + 25% with import tax = 412.5. Plus 40% on that = 577,5. Plus 17% on that = exactly 675.675 pound. That is 1.05 million dollar or 6.7 million yuan.

12 – 6.7 = 5.3 million yuan or 832.000 USD profit! Not bad for selling a simple red car. Aston Martin will only make 150 V12 Zagato’s, it is yet unknown how many will be allocated to the Chinese market, but I guess there will quite a lot…
